U’LET group decided to take step forward and makes some innovations in on line learning and training system which include also on line testing and video presentations combined with power points slides.

Utrecht Network1and University of Ljubljana2Summers Schools events, activities of Slovenian Environmental Protection Council3 (CEPRS) and Flopi4 d.o.o were the fundament to establish on line learning and training system about environmental issues. Good lectures given by professors from Slovenia and abroad, discussions about environmental issues with such diverse group of 40 students from different continents were interesting and exited. Different background of participants causes a live discussion among them.

The following goals were achieved:

First goal was to raise interests from students for modern educational approach -summer school web, with several possibilities reaching different information’s important for summer school.
Secondly, lectures were divided to two parts. First was general lecture, which was video, recorded in second part, students were introduced with case studies, some of them were available via summer school web site links. The purpose of video recording was to make lectures available for workshop preparation and as a good base for future long distance learning. With authentic software solutions we gave to video presentations many technical possibilities, which can be seen if you are sitting down and surfing through our presentation (web site: www.let-group.com).
Third goal was online testing. We were aware, that five or seven credits in 14 days are big benefits for students. We decided that prerequisite for credits should be online testing system. Our proposal was to evaluate their activities via workshop results (50%), field work-two excursions (10%) and online testing (40%). Authentic solution gave students pre testing possibilities and final test for immediate result to students and professors. As we mentioned before this could also be a good base for future long distance learning. Our idea was, that we could have two types of students participating in summer school. Part of them could be present, and part of them could participate from long distance.

1. Utrecht network is a group of 28 universities from almost every European country co-operating in the area of internationalisation in the broadest sense of the word.
The Utrecht Network is associated to the Mid-America Universities International (MAUI) a consortium of 16 institutions in the Midwest region of the United States and the Australian European Network (AEN), a consortium of 7 Australian universities. On of his activities is also International Summers School: “Environmental and Resource Management”. It brings together students and academic staff from member institutions in the beautiful city of Ljubljana to study and discuss environmental issues in an interactive and intensive way. The academic staff come from all over Europe, making the summer school a truly international and multidisciplinary experience. The aim is to invite 50 well-motivated, advanced undergraduate or postgraduate students with at least two years of academic experience from member and associated universities, regardless of their fields of study to experience this new and, hopefully, rewarding opportunity.
